Saphir Hops – Germany
Saphir Hops:
Alpha Acid: 2.0% – 4.5% (เน้นกลิ่นหอมเป็นหลัก)
Beta Acid: 4.0% – 7.0%
Total Oil: 0.8 – 1.4 mL/100g
Saphir Hops: The Noble Aroma with a Fruity Twist
Released in 2002 from the Hop Research Center Hüll, Saphir is a high-quality aroma hop variety. It was bred to provide a robust alternative to traditional varieties like Hallertau Mittelfrüh. While it maintains the classic noble characteristics, it is celebrated for its unique fruity profile and low alpha acid, making it perfect for late additions and dry hopping.
Flavor & Aroma Profile Saphir is renowned for its intense citrus and sweet fruit notes, particularly tangerine, red berries, and apricot. These are elegantly layered over a traditional backbone of floral (lavender) and spicy (herbal) undertones. It delivers a very smooth, clean bitterness that enhances drinkability.
Brewing Performance
Aroma: Fresh, vibrant, and sophisticated. It adds a “bright” dimension to traditional styles.
Versatility: Excellent for both traditional German Lagers and modern Belgian-style Ales.
Technical Specifications:
Alpha Acid: 2.0% – 4.5%
Beta Acid: 4.0% – 7.0%
Total Oil: 0.8 – 1.4 mL/100g
Myrcene: 25% – 40% of total oil
Beer Styles: Pilsner, Helles, Witbier, Saison, Kölsch, and Belgian Blond Ale.
The Witbier Secret: Saphir is a secret weapon for Belgian Witbiers. Its citrus/tangerine notes perfectly complement coriander and orange peel, adding an extra layer of complexity that standard hops can’t match.
