A Wine Thief is a fast and sanitary method to take a sample from a fermenting bucket or carboy. Extreme care must be taken when working with wine after fermentation due to the risk of contamination. When using the wine thief, a sample can be taken with minimal wine contact or agitation. Simply submerge it in the liquid, cover the top hole with your finger, lift out the sample and release the liquid into the testing container. Despite its name, the Wine Thief is ideal for any beverage including beer and cider. A glass wine thief, unlike plastic varieties, has several advantages. The clear glass allows for easy viewing and it resists scratches that can harbor contaminating organisms.

Helpful Hint: Work directly above the sampling container so that the wine thief does not drip from the bottom hole on flooring or carpet.
